What does it mean to GrowKind?
Some People See the Gap Between Who You Are & How You're Showing Up.
I've Been Trained My Whole Life to Close It.
Hi, I'm Laura - a Story Systems Strategist and founder of GrowKind Consulting.
I help purpose-driven founders, therapists, educators, and non-profit leaders build the story infrastructure that makes their work visible, fundable, and sustainable without losing the voice, the values, or the soul that made them start in the first place.
Story is what connects us as humans.
But your individual story, told with craft and care, is also what sets you apart.
Where this work comes from
I've spent the last 26 years in professional environments where listening carefully was the difference between getting it right and getting it wrong. Across industries, roles, and contexts, I kept returning to the same truth: the way a story is told changes everything. Not just what gets communicated, but what gets felt. What gets funded. What gets trusted. What gets chosen.
That understanding became personal in a way I didn't expect.
My younger son has spent much of his life moving through special education classrooms, working with therapists and teachers and specialists of every kind. Watching him navigate those systems up close over the years taught me something I carry into every client engagement: there's a profound difference between someone who does their job and someone who truly sees the person in front of them.
The providers who changed things for him weren't always the most credentialed. They were the ones who listened first. Who held space for complexity. Who treated him as a dynamic, whole person with a story worth understanding before they offered a single strategy or solution.
And the ones who didn't? They went through the motions. They applied frameworks without curiosity. They missed him entirely and, in doing so, caused harm they probably never registered.
That contrast between being truly seen and efficiently processed is exactly what I think about when I sit down with a new client.
My advanced learning in special education allowed me to understand more about the people doing the work. What I found were extraordinarily passionate professionals, many of them constrained by institutional red tape, desperate to do more for the people they serve by limited by the boundaries of where they work.
Some leave those institutions and go into private practice and then hit a different wall: acquisition, retention, marketing, standing out in a crowded field, managing every operational piece of a business while trying to remain present for their clients. They traded one set of constraints for another. And somewhere in that transition, their message got lost.
What I bring to this work
My background doesn’t fit neatly into one category, and I’ve come to see that as one of my greatest assets.
I started as a high school English teacher, drawn to story as craft and as connection. My senior thesis was on Joseph Campbell’s hero’s journey, a framework that maps the arc of transformation that shows up across cultures, across centuries, and across the narratives of every person brave enough to build something meaningful.
That research sent me down a path that’s never really ended: studying how stories function, how they move people, and how the same structural principles that make myths resonate also make brands, missions, and messages come alive.
From there, my path wound through special education, through recovery-centered systems work, and through 26 years of professional experience in which I kept returning to the same practice: listening deeply, finding the thread, and helping people articulate what they most needed others to understand.
For the past decade, I’ve also been building my own online business self-taught in branding, marketing, and the messy, real work of growing with integrity.
I know what it’s like to stare at your own website and feel like it doesn’t capture what you actually do. Like you, I've struggled with creating content that somehow feels off and wondering if the right people are ever going to find me.
Those experiences, both personal and professional, strategic and emotional, are what I bring into every engagement at GrowKind.

Testimonials
I believe that every person and every organization has a story that is genuinely differentiating, not as a marketing concept, but as a lived reality. The way that story gets told — with craft, with care, with structural precision — is one of the most powerful levers available to any mission-driven leader.
I also believe that story without infrastructure is inspiration without traction. Which is why I don’t stop at helping you find your narrative. I help you build the systems, the language, the tools, and the frameworks that carry that narrative forward across your website, your outreach, your funding applications, your onboarding, and your team’s day-to-day communications.
And I do all of it inside a container of emotional safety because I’ve seen what happens when people are asked to share their story before they feel genuinely held. They produce copy that technically says the right things but doesn’t land.
You deserve a space where you can be messy and specific and fully yourself and have someone help you shape that into something strategic, clear, and powerful.
Story is what connects us as humans. But your individual story, told with craft and care, is what sets you apart.
